5. AI cover letter development

A Cover Letter connects the learner's skills, experience and motivation to a specific vacancy. Many AI tools can generate a first draft quickly, but effective Cover Letters require personalisation and careful review. Generic AI-generated text may fail to explain why the learner is interested in a particular organisation or role. Learners should therefore review every suggestion to ensure that the final letter accurately reflects their own motivation and experience.

  1. 1. Opening: identify the position and reason for applying.
  2. 2. Match: connect two or three relevant skills or experiences to the vacancy.
  3. 3. Motivation: explain why the role or organisation is relevant to you.
  4. 4. Closing: express interest in discussing the application and provide a professional sign-off.

Common mistake

  • Sending the same Cover Letter to every employer.

  • Recruiters quickly recognise generic applications. Personalising your Cover Letter shows genuine interest in the role.
